This Holiday – Consumers are Optimistic

Jennifer Nietz - Director of Operations

I can’t believe we are wrapping up the last two months of the year; it’s already November!

Things are looking very optimistic for those that will be selling to consumers this holiday season.  Consumers are feeling very optimistic – the below graph, put together by NPD Group, shows that consumer sentiment is high in all measure categories.

Consumers are looking to spend more this holiday season compared to last year.  In fact, 15% more than 2014! Manufacturers and retailers are being urged to be smart about their offerings.  They have to entice and deliver the modern day consumer and have to do it in a more timely fashion. Out of the research I have found and even more profound stat is the way that consumers are researching for what they will buy.  The graph below illustrates the methods in which consumers are getting product

This information is actually confirming what we hear on the B2B side as well.  Online research is making up the largest portion of information gathering.  On the B2B side we are seeing that 70% of buyers are making their decisions before they will interact with someone live.

Here are some questions and tips you can review and share with your business development teams to capture your end of year sales (B2B or B2C)?

  1. Evaluate your online presence – do you have enough product or solution content on your website?
  2. What does your personal outreach look like?  Do you have a plan in place to connect to your buyers?
  3. Social Media – Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn?  Connect to your buyers
  4. Customer Service – don’t forget about those that have supported your business this time of year
