April 2013 – The U.S. Census Bureau reported that construction spending for February 2013 was higher than its original forecast. Construction Put in Place in February came in at $885.1 billion, or 1.2% higher than was expected. Overall, private non-residential construction is up 5% from a year ago. The largest annual increases were in lodging, office, and manufacturing. Education, healthcare, and religious sectors faced the largest declines.

New Orders for Manufactured Goods has climbed to an all-time high of $492 billion. The economic indicator was first released in 1992. The numbers follow a 2 out of 3 month increase for the report and a 3% growth rate in the last 3 months. Transportation equipment and nondefense aircraft and parts lead the increase.
